"BIRDWATCHING" AT THE HIGH SCHOOL
"Birdwatching" is a very popular free-time activity imported from England. Our school is a very attractive place for the observation of birds; it's situated close to the Polvoranca Park, close to the urban limits of Alcorcon, where the city ends and the open country begins. In this real ecotone we can find a lot of bird species, belonging to urban parks and gardens and to open country. With a bit of luck and patience, we can watch, among others:
And many more .....
In order to facilitate an easier observation, and helping our birds to survive during the winter, we made a set of bird feeders with the 2 ESO students. We used only recycled materials (empty cans, plastic bottles, tetra brik, etc) This way, we learn to re-use recycled materials and do a positive action for the biodiversity.
Once the feeders are situated around the school, we just need to wait until our neighbors come to investigate. We can watch fifteen species or even more. All depends on our patience and skills.
